- Drunk driving blood alcohol limits are to be lowered in an effort to stop related deaths; the good news is that the statistic is already improving
- More than 1,500 restaurants, clubs, hotels and pubs nationwide have closed in the past five years
- Waiting time to take your driving test is now at 9.5 weeks (when we arrived it was 2 years!)
- The usual Halloween violence and vandalism was down by 30% this year, due mostly to the heavy rain on the night; however, firemen called out to a Co. Kildare bonfire earlier in the week were still attacked with stones

- Three high school seniors recently played hookey and attended a livestock auction, successfully bid €5,000 ($7,422) on three horses and gave the name of the buyer as a classmate not involved in the situation
