Gaelic-font-GaelachAlisha and I just signed up for a 9 week Irish language course that will start in late January. Yes, there is an Irish language. I say that because often we hear from people outside of Ireland all the time that they had no idea there was an actual Irish language (you can learn more: http://www.gaeltalk.net/the_language.html).

signpost-irish_loEven though Irish isn’t spoken by many here, Irish is one of the two official languages of Ireland; every directional sign is in Irish first and then English, and there does seem to be a bit of a resurgence of the language happening at the moment.

We have picked up some (studied before we even moved here) but now we have the opportunity to be a bit more serious and in the month of May take a test for a basic level certification in the language. As we have learned a little already, we have realized that with younger adults and kids studying it in school, it goes a long way towards building connections.

So remember us in your prayers as I’m sure many hours of studying are ahead!
